Global Reporting Initiative Tracking & Reporting System

As a component of the Environmental Leadership Program with Cameco Corporation, I was involved in the engagement of all operating sites with regard to compiling relevant environmental performance data that would support tracking performance against achieving corporate goals established for reaching Environmental Leadership in the industry.

  • Engagement with operations to understand existing environmental data reporting requirements and systems, in support of regulatory reporting
  • Collection and compilation of several years of performance data, to assess trends in performance, and to identify appropriate material and relevant indicators within the Global Reporting Initiative scope
  • Determination of relevant missing information, and engagement with sites to establish mechanisms to collect and report on material information
  • Creation of site data reporting templates and streamlined compilation/calculation mechanisms to avoid duplication of reporting by sites, for multiple purposes
  • Creation of corporate compilation system, to streamline reporting on performance against corporate goals for Environmental Leadership program
  • Quarterly and annual reporting of performance data, internally and externally.

Sustainability Integration Initiative

Over several years working with Cameco Corporation, I was involved in the development and implementation of the Environmental Leadership Program. The program extended to all of Cameco's operating sites, it's corporate offices, and also future projects in the Major Projects portfolio.

  • Integration of long-term goals and the concepts of sustainability, continuous improvement, and life-cycle analysis into planning, design, and operational management

  • Development of environmental data tracking system

  • Responsible for corporate compilation, quality assurance, and internal and external reporting of operational environmental performance data and trends

  • Planning and execution of improvement opportunity studies for air pollution abatement, waste management and diversion, and water management studies

  • Facilitation of cross-functional problem-solving workshops on waste management challenges

  • Development and integration of operational environmental strategic plans 

  • Oversight review of major project design proposals and projects, and working with multi-disciplined engineering teams to identify alternative, innovative and more earth-friendly and efficient technologies and operational methodologies to assess within new project designs, to reduce future environmental impacts and financial liabilities.

Project Delivery Program Gap Analysis & Improvement Plan

As a component of the Environmental Leadership Program with Cameco Corporation, I was involved in the assessment and improvements to the Major Projects Project Delivery Program.

  • Performed a gap analysis of a major project delivery and design program, to identify opportunities to reduce project risks associated with gaining regulatory and stakeholder approval, 
  • Developed and implemented an action plan to embed requirements for early identification of environmental interactions and options to mitigate these risks, for inclusion of site-specific environmental targets, and the requirements to involve particular stakeholders at the appropriate design phases and to apply life-cycle and triple-bottom-line assessments for better project outcomes. 

Environmental Strategic Planning Process & Implementation

As a component of the Environmental Leadership Program with Cameco Corporation, I was involved in the engagement of all operating sites with regard to projects and initiatives that might support achieving corporate goals established for reaching Environmental Leadership in the industry.

  • Worked with corporate team to develop strategic planning process and guidelines, to align with and complement the existing Environmental Management Program,
  • Engagement with finance, strategic planning teams, and operations’ management and environment teams, to create long-term, environmental strategic plans, and to embed these within their life of asset financial plans,
  • Development of progress tracking and reporting system for the corporate and operational goals,
  • Integration of the new requirements of the strategic planning process within the existing ISO 14001 Environmental Management Program, and annual business planning cycle.
