Our passion is in advancing solutions to complex challenges with waste management in mining. We’d like to see more efforts advancing circularity in mining to make all mining developments not just responsible, but going above and beyond to create value for all stakeholders involved in, and impacted by, industry. The less waste we generate, the lower the potential for environmental impacts, the lower the cost of the operation, and the lower the risk and liability.

We know that the best solutions to any complex challenge involve a strong network of diverse thinkers, knowledge, and healthy conflict, as well as the ability for said teams and stakeholders to work together effectively and efficiently. Through experience, it has become clear that our greatest successes are tied to an ability to see the big picture and the opportunities presented at intersections of currently siloed disciplines and operating units.

With that, EIS is building a network of partners advancing aspects of mining circularity. These are specialists who can help to fully understand, visualize, and work together to create some real value while eliminating environmental liabilities. We can help you to strategize and develop the scope of work necessary to develop your sustainable mining or risk management solution, as well as help you to determine the broad stakeholder network that you’ll need to help advance your work.

Let us be your partner of choice to create the most value from your development.

I worked with Karen for 2-3 years on the Environmental Stewardship Committee of the Canada Mining Innovation Council. As the past Chair of the initiative, I remain impressed by Karen’s dedication to our team, both as a team member and a team leader. Her contributions to the group are well planned and well thought out and she contributes to the team by inspiring others with the depth of her understanding and willingness to support our objectives. Karen’s contributions to the team are part of the reason we are successful and I welcome her contributions and counsel. She is a true leader on our team.

Collaborations & Contributions

“Over the past several years, I’ve volunteered ~25% of my time with industry associations and committees. One of the greatest challenges I’m most excited about is advancing initiatives to reduce risks in tailings and mine waste management, and expanding a network of organizations interested in mining circularity. I’ve collaborated with various individuals and groups over the past 5-10 years to move this work forward.”

Over the past two years, I have been involved with the Canadian Task Force for the GMPA Global Action on Tailings Initiative, where we are strategizing to advance the elimination of tailings altogether. We represent cross-discipline expertise from CIM, and working side by side with other global mining associations, such as SME and AusIMM.

Participation in Natural Resources Canada CanMET Mining within their Value from Mine Waste program, as well as performed work aligned with the Canadian Mining and Metals Plan, regarding Mining Circularity content, to investigate opportunities to derive value from mine wastes and raise awareness of opportunities for the mining sector.

In the past, our founder also worked with the Canada Mining Innovation Council, Zero Waste Environmental Stewardship Initiative, to work on better tailings waste management strategies and closure protocols.

Overall, if industry can reduce risks associated with, and/or create value derived from mining wastes, that will make us all very happy and we’ll keep working to push this initiative forward!
